Bamboo Islands är en typisk tropisk ö i Phi Phi-skärgården i Thailand. Lokalt känd som Koh Phai eller Koh Mai Phai, är det den nordostligaste av öarna, cirka 5 km från kusten från Koh Phi Phi Don i det underbara blå Andamansjön. Dess avlägset läge säkerställer att stranden aldrig är trångt och ger en ovanligt fridfull thailändsk strandupplevelse.
Bamboo Island är en av de 80 öar och holmar som är en del av Phi Phi National Marine Park och det finns en entréavgift på 400 baht (ca 12 USD). Avgiften betalas till din reseledare eller till parkvakten vid ankomst till ön. För att besöka måste du boka en tur på en longtailbåt från Tonsai Village (40 minuter med båt) eller Sea Gypsy Village på Laem Tong Beach (15 minuters båtfärd). Du kan också besöka med motorbåt på en dagsutflykt från Krabi eller Phuket.
Den lågt belägna hjärtformade ön är cirka 700 m lång och insidan är tjock med casuarinaträd och bambu, därav dess namn. Den vita sandstranden har några steniga fläckar. Det är praktiskt taget outvecklat, även om det finns en strandhytt som serverar drinkar och snacks.
Ta med din snorklingsutrustning eftersom vattnet mellan Bamboo Island och fastlandet har ett anmärkningsvärt rev (Hin Kland) som kryllar av så mycket fisk och marint liv att det är som att simma i ett akvarium. Revet omger ön och ger lugnt klart blått vatten, och det kommer inom 500 meter från stranden. Stranden är spridd med trasiga bitar av koraller som också skapar den rosa färgtonen till sanden.
