Efter att ha misslyckats med att bilda den nästa regeringen trots att de blev det största partiet i representanthuset meddelade Move Forward-partiet att de skulle göra sitt bästa i sin roll som opposition. Efter den gemensamma sessionen för under- och överhusen på tisdagen som valde Pheu Thai-ledda koalitionens premiärministerkandidat Srettha Thavisin till landets 30:e premiärminister sa Move Forwards generalsekreterare Chaitawat Tulathon till reportrar att hans parti skulle göra allt för att övervaka den verkställande makten.
Chaitawat sa att partiet skulle fortsätta driva framåt progressiva lagar, inklusive ändring av majestätsbrott-lagen, genom både parlamentariska och icke-parlamentariska metoder för att åstadkomma förändringar i samhället.
“Move Forward kommer stå fast för folket, med övertygelsen att folkets kraft en dag kommer att föra in en ny framtid för Thailand”, sa han. “Vi kommer en dag att ha verklig demokrati.”
När han blev tillfrågad om partiets roll som ledare för oppositionen sa han att han hoppades att konstitutionsdomstolen snabbt skulle fatta beslut i Pitas fall rörande ägandeandelar.
Konstitutionen stadgar att ledaren för partiet med flest antal ledamöter i parlamentet, som också måste vara en medlem av parlamentet, kommer att fungera som ledare för oppositionen. Dock är Move Forwards ledare, Pita Limjaroenrat, för närvarande avstängd från att utföra sina plikter som parlamentsledamot.
Chaitawat tillade att han ännu inte hade diskuterat med andra partier på oppositionssidan.

Samtidigt skrev Pita på sin Instagram efter premiärministervalet att den Pheu Thai-ledda regeringen inte kunde skapa förändring i samhället och den gick emot folkets samförstånd.
“Move Forward har ingen annan än folket”, sa han.
“Vi kommer arbeta hårt i folkets bästa och aldrig svika det förtroende som folket har satt till oss”, tillade han.
