Regeringen godkände i tisdags i princip nya regler för att stödja sjukförsäkring för utlänningar som vistas långt under O-A visumet.
Nya regler gäller för Covids sjukförsäkring för expat för längre vistelse De gamla reglerna krävde köp av thailändsk sjukförsäkring via webbplatsen Longstay.tgia.org, som har drabbats av driftsproblem. De nya reglerna erbjuder en livlina för expats över 70 år som inte kan köpa en försäkring i Thailand och därmed får problem med sina ansökningar om förlängning av vistelsen.
De nya reglerna fastställdes enligt följande:
Den första Visum ansäkan måste inkludera sjukförsäkring eller statlig välfärd med lägsta täckning på $ 100.000 eller 3 miljoner baht för medicinska kostnader och behandling av Covid-19.
Ansökningar om extension av vistelsen kan använda sjukförsäkring från utlandet eller statlig välfärd från utlandet. Detta måste certifieras av en relevant myndighet, till exempel en utländsk ambassad i Thailand eller landets utrikesministerium.
Om ett försäkringsbolag vägrar täckning på grund av hälsorisker, måste visumsökande lämna in ytterligare dokument inklusive avslagsbrev, plus värdepapper, insättningar och annan sjukförsäkring som står för minst 3 miljoner baht.
Kabinettet gav Immigrationsbyrån uppdrag att förbättra regler och villkor för ansökningar om kortvariga visum, medan utrikesministeriet har fått i uppdrag att uppgradera riktlinjer för O-A-viseringsansökningar.
